Troubleshooting CMOS

If you suspect a problem with your CMOS configuration, try loading the BIOS defaults and see if that cures the problem.

If the problem is with a new drive or peripheral, make sure that the device is configured properly with the correct density and size paramenters.

If the hard drive will not operate properly check to make sure the cyln, heads, size landing zone etc. Paramenters are correct for that type of drive.

If the system clock will not hold the time properly, then simply change the battery and try again. When the system boots, go directly to the CMOS setup routine and restore each setting.

If you have the CMOS information recorded in a file, boot the system from floppy disk and use the CMOS backup/restore utillity to restore the file. You should then be able to restart the system as if nothing had ever happened.
